VIDAS DE LOS POETAS

En la poesía no hay final feliz.

Los poetas acaban

viviendo su locura.

Y son descuartizados como reses

(sucedió con Darío).

O bien los apedrean y terminan

arrojándose al mar o con cristales

de cianuro en la boca.

O muertos de alcoholismo, drogadicción, miseria.

O lo que es peor: poetas oficiales,

amargos pobladores de un sarcófago

llamado Obras Completas.

POETEN BIZITZAK

Poesian ez dago amaiera zoriontsurik.

Poetak, azkenean,

beren eroak bizi ditu.

Eta abereen gisa laurdenkatzen dituzte

(Darío-rekin gertatu zen).

Edo, bestela, harrika egiten diete eta, azkenean,

itsasora botatzen dute beren burua, edo zianuro

kristalak ahoan dituztela amaitzen dute.

Edo alkoholismoak, drogazaletasunak, miseriak hilak.

Edo are okerrago: poeta ofizial gisara,

Idazlan Guztiak izeneko

sarkofago baten biztanle garratz.

SPRING ON THE AVENUE Again a sudden rumor comes along the avenue; the merry sparrows hear it there and twitter it is a true. The twitter all the secret out to every lad and lass- to all the people swarming by, that spring has come to pass. And yet, of all the teeming crowds, has anybody spied romance is tripping down the street with april at its side?

A THOUGHT   To return to infancy: to be without speech. The threshold between Eden and Heaven. Ground and cloud. Hollowed out, each image will lose its definition bit by bit. An infant in Purgatory still covers her head with swaddling Or is it the sunlight lying on the floor? We try to domesticate our spirits like children. We chase and chastise them until they change. We spend our lives trying to release them again .
