VI SOM ÄR FÖDDA VID HAVET

Vi som är födda vid havet,

var vi bor gör detsamma.

Det blåser alltid en vind

omkring vårt hus.

Vi vaknar med salt på tungan.

Våra vägar bär över branta berg,

och vi kämpar alltid mot stormen.

Rensopat och bart

ligger vårt liv framför oss —

en öde berghäll,

ensam med solen och vågorna.

NOSOTROS LOS NACIDOS JUNTO AL MAR

Nosotros los nacidos junto al mar,

hacemos lo mismo allí donde vamos.

Siempre sopla algún viento

rondando nuestra casa.

Nos despertamos con sal en la lengua.

Van nuestros caminos a empinadas montañas,

y siempre luchamos contra la tormenta.

Limpia y desnuda

se tiende nuestra vida ante nosotros —

un barranco desierto y rocoso,

solo ante el sol y las olas.

SPRING ON THE AVENUE Again a sudden rumor comes along the avenue; the merry sparrows hear it there and twitter it is a true. The twitter all the secret out to every lad and lass- to all the people swarming by, that spring has come to pass. And yet, of all the teeming crowds, has anybody spied romance is tripping down the street with april at its side?

SORRY, I FORGOT TO CLEAN UP AFTER MYSELF Sorry, Sirs and Madams, I forgot to clean up after myself after the unfortunate incidents of the previous century. How embarrassing; my apologies. I wouldn’t advise you to stroll around here without safety goggles, and I must insist that you enter at your own risk. You may, however, leave your umbrella at the door. Just keep your ticket. We expected, of course, to have this all cleared away by the time you arrived. The goal was to present you with blue and green screens, whitewashed counters. Unforeseen expenses. Red tape. So hard to find good help these days. But, alas, excuses. Perhaps you will appreciate the difficulties I’ve faced in providing you a clean slate. If you step into a hole, Sirs and Madams, accept the loss of a shoe or two. Stay the course. Progress is the mother of invention. Here: take my hand. Yes, that’s right. You can return it on the way back. DISC...
